By-Law restricting wood stoves and fireplaces

At the last Council Meeting notice was served and a draft by-law was deposited restricting the use of wood stoves and fireplaces, notably by requiring residents to declare them to the City (within 180 days for existing wood stove/fireplaces and 120 days for newly added ones) and imposing an articulate matter emission rate standard equal to or less than 2.5 g/h. Two years after the bylaw takes effect, the use of fireplaces/wood stoves not meeting the new standard will no longer be allowed, except as a secondary power source during a power outage lasting three hours or longer.

The bylaw will most likely be voted on at the December 1, 2026, Council meeting. For the purpose of transparency, I believe in sharing the bylaw text with constituents so that you can read it for yourselves and give me your feedback before I cast my vote. Unfortunately, the City no longer posts most bylaws online or even provides them to councillors in a format we can easily share. I scanned a print copy handed out at the last council meeting and am attaching it here (apologies for the quality).
