Freezing Rain and Strong Winds Expected – December 29: The City is Preparing and Monitoring the Situation

Notice from the City. Please note that for those who experience power outages, the Aquatic Centre and Arena are on generator power and will be open tomorrow morning. They can serve as warming centres for those who need them.



Environment Canada is forecasting a prolonged episode of freezing rain, accompanied by wind gusts of up to 70 km/h, beginning tonight and continuing throughout the day tomorrow, December 29. Municipal crews are ready and will be deployed to monitor conditions and respond as needed.

For branches or debris blocking streets, please contact the Inspection – Public Security Department.  If you leave a voicemail message, there is no need to call back, as crews respond based on the priority of reported situations.

If there is an immediate safety risk, such as downed power lines on public roads, branches in contact with electrical wires causing sparks, or a vehicle collision involving a utility pole, call 911 immediately.To learn when to contact police services, consult the page When should you dial 911?.

 

Weather Conditions and Travel

These conditions will make roads and sidewalks extremely slippery and may significantly affect travel and traffic.

Residents are strongly encouraged to avoid non-essential travel, exercise extra caution outdoors, and remain alert to the risk of falling ice and tree branches.

 

Weather Conditions and Power Outages

These weather conditions may result in power outages. Residents are encouraged to prepare accordingly.It is recommended that you charge your cellphones and essential devices, as well as verify that your sump pump is functioning properly, if applicable.

In the event of a power outage, please consult Hydro-Québec’s Power Outage Information.If your outage has not been reported, you may contact Hydro-Québec at 1-800-790-2424.
